The course
What age is it for?
If they know the letters A to G, they can start. It is for anyone learning to read notes, which is usually a kid starting piano, band or choir. The buttons are big and the levels are short. Every answer is timed, because speed is what earns stars, but nothing runs out unless you choose the sprint or a game.
Which clefs?
Treble and bass, then both clefs mixed together, then sharps and flats. The last two units are the landmark notes and longer runs that reach three ledger lines above and below the staff.
Ways to answer
Does voice work?
In Chrome and Safari, on a Mac, a PC, an iPhone or an iPad. Say the letter ("G", or "F sharp"). It listens continuously, so there is nothing to press between notes. If a letter is misheard, say it again. A word that is not a note is ignored, not scored.
Can it hear my real piano?
Yes, on the Piano tab. It listens for the pitch through the microphone. A note it could not hear is never counted as wrong, only a clearly different note is. A quiet room helps; a digital piano through its own speakers works too.
Does a MIDI keyboard work?
In Chrome, Edge and Firefox, over USB. Safari does not allow web pages to use MIDI, so on an iPad use the Piano tab instead.
The Family Pass
What does it cost?
Level 1 is free, five minutes a day for each profile, with Learn, the stats and the log. The Family Pass is $29 once and opens everything for everyone on the account: every level, practice, the sprint and both games, with no daily time limit. No subscription. See pricing.
Can two kids share one account?
Yes, up to six. Add a profile for each; every profile has its own levels, stats and log, and a switcher sits in the top corner of every screen. One Family Pass covers all of them.
Is there an iPhone or Mac app?
The apps are on their way, and a Family Pass bought here carries over to them. Until then everything runs in the browser, on any phone, tablet or computer.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, in full within 14 days of buying: email support@clefhop.com.
Is it safe for my child?
A grown-up holds the account and signs in; a child never needs an email, a photo or a birthday, only a first name and an emoji for their profile. There are no ads and nothing is sold. Anything that spends money or deletes the account asks a grown-up first. The privacy policy says what is kept and how to delete it.
